Drone n’Base, the first real life video game

A little known company from Slovenia has come out with what looks like a very fun and innovative use for micro-drones, pitting players against each other in video game-like battles.

The drones are small, 38mm x 84mm x 94mm, this makes them very light weight. Because they are so light they can take off and land on the palm of a hand. The small size gives these drones a very light weight, just 46 grams, combine this with the tough plastics the drones are made of they are very damage resilient even when falling on hard surfaces. The units can fly for around 7 minutes. With a tiny battery that can be changed in seconds the only limit on your flight time will be the life of your iOS or Android device needed to control the drone.

The game supports a maximum of 8 players and can post your scores against other players live to the online score boards. The two game modes shown in the sample trailer are a race battle game, similar to Mario Kart. The other game is a capture the flag like any first person shooter, played with drones… in the real world… with (virtual) missiles. Obviously words will never be good enough to describe this so check out the video below.

Were anxious for these to be more widely available, I personally can’t wait to get my hands on one and give it a serious go round.

What do you all think about these, is it something that would interest you?
Is this something you expect to see more of in the future?
Is this the next fad game or is this going to stick around for a while?
