Drone Used In Nature Photography BBC

BBC The Next In Line To Adopt Drone Photography For Planet Earth II

The BBC has released that they will be making a follow up to the nature series Planet Earth aptly titled Planet Earth II.

The original aired ten years ago and was narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough who will be returning to lend his world recognized voice to the educational wild masterpiece. You will likely notice the kills, chases and intimate encounters with this rare and majestic creatures have been updated for today’s audiences. First they have upgraded the cameras to film the events in UltraHD so you will be seeing the animal action in 4k. Secondly the team has incorporated Drone technology into their filming repertoire giving them unprecedented freedom when designing the shots and giving the ability to create amazing scenery scapes without the cost of helicopters and without the restriction of static cranes.

In speaking with Ben Sheppard, managing director of Spider Aerial Filming, he said speaking of the changes Drones have made to the film industry “No other filming method can start a sequence inside a building and end up at 400ft altitude in one uncut shot,”. Spider has taken part in the filming of such programmes as Downton Abbey, 24 Hours in A&E and Channel 4’s Dispatches.

In the right hands drone cinematography can make sitting in your living room in front of your entertainment system feel like you’re flying over the Arctic or an African plain. This makes the entire team at DS Drones very excited to see where the drones take this follow up feature from the BBC, we are all huge fans of the first one!
