FAA Proposes Huge Fine Against Aerial Photography Company

On Tuesday October 6th the FAA proposed the largest fine yet to be levied upon a commercial entity.

The company, SkyPan International, has been charged with flying drones in crowded New York and Chicago airspace. Reportedly between March 2012 and December 2014 the company flew 65 flights in some of the countries most congested airspace. To make things worse the drones in question lacked two-way radio, transponder and altitude reporting equipment.

When speaking on the subject Michael Huerta of the FAA said that these acts were “illegal and can be dangerous”. The proposed record fine by the FAA is 1.9 million dollars. SkyPan has 30 days to respond.

Do you feel this fine is appropriate?
Do you think what SkyPan did is really that dangerous?

We here at DS Drones would love to hear what you think!
