InterDrone Grand Keynote

Highlights From InterDrone, Everything Just Got Better For Aerial Photography and Videography

The InterDrone conference and exposition in Las Vegas, NV ended yesterday, we were there, and it was awesome!

The grand keynote was given by 3DR’s CEO, Chris Anderson. During Chris Anderson’s speech he compared the drone industry to the PC and the Internet. His point is that the technology itself is merely a springboard for the endless applications developed by the everyday person, such as how the Internet combined with cars brought us Uber. The point he makes is that drones combine with everything. He asks the audience, what is the next big use for drones beyond just drone film-making and drone photography?

You can see Chris Anderson’s keynote below. We did not film it, but it is definitely worth sharing.

Another highlight from InterDrone was DJI, the largest drone manufacturer in the world, announced two new cameras, the Zenmuse X5 and X5R, for its high-end Inspire drone. These new micro four thirds cameras are designed with aerial use in mind. They will offer the professional videography far more capabilities, including 13 stops of dynamic range, 16 megapixel resolution and the ability to shoot 24fps and 30fps 4k video. The Zenmuse cameras support four different wide-angle lenses from DJI, Panasonic and Olympus and are attached directly to DJI’s Zenmuse gimbals. Keynote speaker and DJI Director of Aerial Imaging, Eric Cheng, explains that the new cameras have a bigger sensor that provides them with a higher dynamic range than the standard DJI cameras.

If you already enjoy making videos with drones or are looking to start, you should definitely take a look at these new cameras. Here is what the new X5’s look like:
