Google Registers New Drones With FAA

Google has developed a pair of new drones and registered them with the FAA. These drones have been registered with the codenames B3 and M2.

The drones in question are both described as amateur electric fixed wing, multi-engine drones. They are listed as having twin engines and no seats. They are classified in the “UAV up to 55” category meaning they weigh less than 55lbs. This lower weight class gives Google a lot of testing freedom that heavier drones would not afford them.

Because it is google and because they registered them with the FAA there are a few assumptions we can make. First they are likely commercial drones or they would not have had to register them with the FAA. Another likely scenario is that this testing will need to be done out-doors as you do not need to register with the FAA to fly indoors. Lastly the most likely reason to register two at the same time is to test a pair of designs against each other. It is highly possible these drones are meant for delivery drones however nothing has been confirmed.

No images have been provided of the drones as of yet so we cannot speculate on their design. The testing will be done in Colorado rather than California. Google has not yet released any information about these drones. The information we have has been gleamed from the FAA Registry.
